Stay Warm this winter with a New Furnace
In the last number of years Calgary weather has seen some extremes, pushing our furnaces and air conditioners to their limits. According to the Old Farmer’s 2017 Almanac’s weather forecast, Alberta is in for a colder and snowier winter, a warmer and drier spring, and a rainier and cooler summer.
The Old Farmer’s 2017 Almanac’s Prairies Region long range weather region includes communities across Alberta including Airdrie, Brooks, Calgary, Camrose, Canmore, Cochrane, Edmonton, High River, Lacombe, Leduc, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, Okotoks, Red Deer, Spruce Grove, Stony Plain, Sylvan Lake, and Wetaskiwin.
According to the Huffington Post, the Old Farmer’s Almanac uses a formula that takes into consideration factors like the position of the planets, sunspot activity, and the way the moon affects the tides to come up with its predictions. Like it or not, the Almanac is usually about 80 to 85 per cent accurate, during years without an El Nino weather pattern.
The Old Farmers’ 2017 forecast also predicts above normal precipitation for the Alberta region, and below normal precipitation for the eastern prairies, suggesting it will be quite different from the mild year Calgary has been experiencing. The snowiest periods will be in mid-December, early January, mid- and late February, mid- to late March, and mid-April. The rest of the year fluctuates between warmer and slightly drier than normal, and rainier and slightly cooler than normal. Extremes are what defines Calgary weather these days.
Calgary Winter Predictions
These weather extremes are having an affect all over Calgary. In October 2016, crews from Allied Projects began installing new LED light fixtures on the Peace Bridge. The city is spending $700,000 to replace 300 light fixtures that just can’t handle Calgary’s cold winters. This comes after a summer filled with hail storms.
With this level of uncertainty in the weather, knowing that your home is safe, secure, and maintaining a comfortable temperature year round can offer you a bit of respite as well as peace of mind knowing your family is protected for those weather extremes.
